David Phillips Employee Profile
Published Monday, September 20, 2004

David Phillips works hard to take care of his family, but in a traditional setting, it was impossible for Phillips to succeed. As a certified employee at Kingdom Projects, in Fulton, Missouri, Phillips has found a way to excel in both his personal and professional life.

Fourteen years ago, Phillips was looking for a way to support his wife and growing family, when he started at Kingdom Projects as a sorter at the recycling facility. Kingdom Projects takes in hundreds of thousands of pounds of recyclable materials each month, and Phillips sorted items such as plastic bottles, aluminum, steel, paper, and more.

Since starting at Kingdom Projects, his strong work ethic, and commitment to doing the right thing, has helped Phillips move up through the ranks. He is now a recycling supervisor, and enjoys the responsibility he carries.

"I supervise the workers on the balers, I watch the sorting tables, and make sure that it's all running smoothly and that no one gets hurt," says Phillips. "It's a great environment, and I get along with everyone here."

His ability to get along with everyone is why Steve Mallinckrodt, assistant manager at Kingdom Projects says, "he was selected as a recycling supervisor."

"Dave works well with the other employees, and whether he is driving a forklift, operating the baler, he has a good attitude that gets the job done," says Mallinckrodt. "He has truly been a great asset to Kingdom Projects."

Phillips spends most days manning the balers and making sure that all of the materials all get sorted properly. Once the items are sorted, he ensures that the items are baled, and moved with the forklift. Some of the bales can be as heavy as 2000 pounds.

"I'm busy all the time, and I like that," says Phillips. "I just go where I need to be, and try to get everything done."

Phillips is proud to be able to give back to the community by helping to recycle and reduce landfill waste. In July, Kingdom Projects processed a record-setting 170 tons (340,000 pounds) of recyclables, an accomplishment he is very proud of.

Not only do his co-workers and supervisors say great things about him, but his wife, Judy is quite proud of him as well.

"My wife is proud that I work hard," says Phillips, "But she's even more proud that I am able to take care of my family."

Kingdom Projects, Inc. (KPI) employs over 100 certified employees, who have been approved by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education's (DESE) Divisions of Vocational Rehabilitation.
